Because thou has kept the word of my patience...
-Revelation 3:10
DAY 6 | Philadelphia| Patience
Do we really understand patience? Today we jump right into Revelation chapter 3 verses 7 through 13 with the emphasis on verse 10.
The church at Philadelphia was the church that pleased the LORD. It was the church that held on to the LORD through everything. It was the church that did so with what today could be called 'with honour' but the Bible uses the word patience. But not any kind of patience... "the word of my patience". AMAZING!
We are constantly being pointed right back to Jesus himself!
LOOK UP
- PATIENCE
- DENY
- DISAGREE
- TEMPER
- MURMURING
The attribute of patience is more than being able to stand in long lines while the people ahead of you are taking their sweet time ... it is more than the waiting for a matter to be resolved. It is an issue of the heart...it is enduring the hardship, suffering, toil, or provocation without murmuring or fretfulness.
In James chapter 1, we read: "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:2-5
I'd like to spend time talking about patience, however; to stay on track we need to remember what is written in Revelation 3:10...it is speaking of Jesus' patience.. specifically "the word of my patience". We learn from Jesus! As he said in Matthew 11:29:

After looking up the words listed above, what do we know about Jesus example and what is written of him in the Word of God? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are a couple of scriptures to help you:
Matthew 27
Luke 23
Hebrews 12
Knowing this about our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, we can follow him by being:
PATIENT
in trial -- James 1:22-25
in good works -- James 1:22-25
under oppression -- James 5:7
under persecution -- James 5:10
unto the coming of the LORD -- James 5:8
DIG DEEPER:
Ecclesiastes 7:8
Romans 12:12
I Thessalonians 5:9-28
II Thessalonians 3:5
Because it is God's good pleasure to will and to work in our life, then we can know that it is he that is doing this good work in us -- conforming us into the image of his Son.
"Being confident of this very thing, that he who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" - Philippians 1:6
LORD, help us to ever be mindful to let patience have her perfect work!
Only one more day in this little boot camp...hang on .. see you on DAY 7
