I like to read. I love to read the Bible. I like to read biographies of men and women of God who devoted their lives to God. So, one of these evenings, I was sharing what I had read from Charles H. Spurgeon --a wonderful and encouraging exposition on the book of Psalms, when one of the guys at the table said...'you are always talking about dead guys'. That made me laugh! He saw it as 'dead guys'. Until that moment, I hadn't realized that I preferred to read works written a long time ago. So, for this gentleman, I began to refer to those 'dead guys' as The Advanced Class. [See Hebrews 12:1]
If you haven't read any of Charles H. Spurgeon's writings, you should check it out. I believe FIRST and Foremost, one should read the Bible (KJV). IF, and I do mean IF you continually read the Bible, then it's ok to read other books. I say that because there are truckloads of garbage books out there calling themselves Christian when they are nothing of the sort.
How can you spot a fake? You have to KNOW the original first.
If you don't read the Bible everyday, well...you'll believe the majority of 'alleged' 'so-called' Christian authors.
OK...The LORD has had me in his prayer school for many years. I've been learning and learning about prayer, how to pray,etc...by spending time with the LORD every morning. The LORD brought to my attention these two books by Andrew Murray (1828-1917)
"The Ministry of Intercession" and "Waiting on the LORD". (the link will take you to a website where you can download the book on PDF)
I'll leave you with this:
John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
I John 3:21-23
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
WATCH and PRAY,
~Cristina
